DELAND-WELDON
MIDDLE SCHOOL ART
BIG IDEA: Adornment
Adornment is the act of decorating or embellishing something. The way people adorn themselves, their spaces, and their things has to do with the individual person adorning themselves, how people around them adorn themselves, and the social contexts in which the person adorns themselves. All people participate in adornment. By examining adornment, artists are able to investigate various concepts such as, but not limited to, identity, borders, beauty, gender, communication, social status, and society.
Location-Based WearableS
During this project, students explored various forms of adornment and then created their own wearable art based on a meaningful location. Students then created tape people sculptures to display their wearables on.

Found-Object Self-Portraits
|
VIRTUAL MUSEUMS |
For this project, students explored different means of creating self-portraits and then created a final self-portrait using found objects. The projects consistently engaged students in processes that required critical thinking and problem-solving.
|
After exploring the work of contemporary artists, students created virtual museums based on a theme. Then, students created their own artwork to fit within the theme of their virtual museum.
